Renault Megane Sport 2 in Alias Studio tools (Sektor-41)

Sektor-41 is publishing an Alias studio tools tutorial: ‘highly accurate Renault Megane Sport II in Alias Studio tools’

The tutorial is split into thirteen sections, each an hour long - that’s a massive thirteen hours of high quality learning in this tutorial.

I didn’t already purchase it, but no doubt sektor-41 might provide a high quality tutorial.
However, it would be nice to see with wich accuraty are managed the surfaces continuities.

As you can see this tutorial has a price: 49.95$

2009.03 UPDATE: Reading Sam and Wojciech comments (see below), who bought the tutorial,  it seems that this tutorial is not a good buying recommendation (13 hours, no comments, not Class A surfaces,..)

2009.11 UPDATE: Sektor-41 website is down as mention ‘J’ in his comment.

it’s not bad but wouldn’t make text book stuff. the edges follow partlines instead of surface edges in places. resulting in more surfaces than strickly required, and no curvature comb analysis takes place to check continuity.

My main issue is that no patch layout is ever developed. he just seems to launch headlong into the modelling. tertiary fillet surfaces are made in places before slab surfaces are made in others. maybe it’s because the tut only focuses on the front 3rd of the vehicle, but it all seems a bit random.
some audio would have been nice too. the video compression makes it hard to see some of the explainations, and 13 hours of silent video gets a bit dry.
for the price i’d say it’s worth it. at the end of the day the tut was never meant to show how to make production quality surfaces.

Posting here your questions rather than email them is a better way to share if shane answer them. Email is a closed conversation! Blogging these Question/Answers allows the community to consult them :)

To be honest I do not have money to buy this lesson and the possibility of at least CAST pay for it via the Internet, but I really want to learn how to model cars .. and I would ask to put this lesson for me to rapidshare ..

Kodg : the “learning design with aliastools” book teaches how to model a car. Adn it is available on rapidshare.

Did anyone try this latest book “Autodesk AliasStudio 2009: Essentials AOTC” ?

kodg Buy the tutorial, I’ve been looking around and trying to find decent tutorials, modeling mobile phones and bottles is really boring and this was exactly what I needed. I’ve just started out and watching this has given me everything I need to model cars.

This tutorial is not perfect and he does some things a little weird but you will learn how to use the software.

You should support them so they can keep up the work and release more.

13 hours is worth a whole lot more than $49.95, if you cant afford it heres an idea, save up for it and buy it when you have the money.

Thanks to arno for the blog because this is where I found the tutorial!!

Thanks for sharing Kodg. The images look good. could you (or someone offer) to host the rar file somewhere more stable? the 10 downloads expired pretty quick i’ll bet!

I bought it and am pretty disapointed, the guy is not an AST expert and clearly doesn’t use AST in production. Waste of time and money.

    @Sam:
Can you develop a little bit. It would be nice to update the post with your comments.

Guys dont buy that crap!!…I doesnt show important things for StudioTools like surface continuity for example..its nothing hard but still the essence why Studio is so great software. Front of the car is quite easy and theres nothing too much you can learn. For $50 I would expect at least some comments from the teacher while here is 13h. of silence without even any text description. In my opnion: for $50 dont buy it!!..you can learn more from free tutorials. I just lost $50 :(

  18. 18 David Posted July 27th, 2010 - 5:30 am

Well Arno to be perfecly honest.Where did you learn Alias Studio?
Why don’t you put a learning video how to model a car in Alias.
I would pay for it any day.

  19. 19 arno Posted July 27th, 2010 - 2:01 pm
